Cico - Tombstone Blues
Today is Mark Knopfler's birthday. We cannot deny his importance in Dylan's career but - like Charlie Sexton yesterday - there are no video's available of Mark performing a cover. Besides - more importantly - the staff here aren't the biggest Knopfler fans.
There is another hook for today's video: The late great Cecil B. DeMille was born on August 12th 1881. Which gives us an option for Tombstone Blues:
Now I wish I could give Brother Bill his great thrill
I would set him in chains at the top of the hill
Then send out for some pillars and Cecil B. DeMille
He could die happily ever after.
For some reason the "pillars' and "top of the hill" remind us of The Ten Commandments, a movie which DeMille barely survived (‘he could die happily ever after’). Watch and listen to 'Tombstone Blues' by Francesco (Cico) in Hastings Old Town, George Street (which hasn't got the Cecil B. DeMille verse, but it's a busker version and it's a Saturday).
